Running Holidays Europe — Guided Trail Running Trips

    Certified guides UK-wide Fast turnaround

European trail running gives you what the UK can't: sustained alpine climbs, high mountain huts, and long descents that go on for an hour.

Our European running holidays take the same format as our UK trips — small groups, guided every day, routes chosen for your ability — and put them on bigger terrain. Think alpine valleys and passes, Mediterranean coastal ranges, and the sort of vertical you simply cannot find in Britain.

If you've run comfortably in Snowdonia, the Lakes or the Highlands, you're ready for this. If you haven't yet, start with a UK running holiday and build up — we'd rather you enjoyed the trip than survived it.

Why run in Europe with us

    • British guides who run the routes and speak your language on the hill
    • Altitude and heat managed properly — earlier starts, more water, honest pacing
    • Transfers, mountain accommodation and route logistics arranged for you
    • Small groups, split by pace, so the day works for everyone

    How the trip runs

    1. Planning — we agree the region and dates, confirm your ability, and send a kit list built for altitude and heat
    2. Arrival day — travel, a short leg-loosener run and a briefing on the week
    3. Build days — progressive routes so your legs and lungs adapt to the vertical before the biggest day
    4. Summit or pass day — the objective of the trip, placed on the best forecast window
    5. Recovery day — something shorter and lower, then home

    Frequently asked questions

    Do I need alpine experience?

No, but you do need to be comfortable running for two to four hours on UK trails first. The skill that matters most in the Alps is patient uphill pacing, and your guide coaches that on day one.

    Are flights included?

No — you book your own flights, which keeps the trip cheaper and lets you use points or fly from wherever suits. We'll tell you exactly which airport and arrival window to aim for.

    How hot does it get?

Hot enough that we start early in high summer and carry more water. If you'd rather avoid heat entirely, spring and September trips are the answer.

    Is altitude a problem?

On most of our routes you're between 1,000 m and 2,500 m, where the effect is noticeable but manageable. We build the week so your hardest day isn't your first.

    Ready to run?

Tell us your dates, your rough weekly mileage and where you'd like to run. We'll come back with the routes we'd recommend, availability and a price.
